SOMAC’s work on this distinguished project consisted of the procurement and construction of the PC2 Monomer Unit (monoethylene glycol and propylene oxide). Saudi Kayan is one of the largest petrochemical projects in the world, located in Jubail.
SOMAC was among a distinguished number of contractors selected to support the project. SOMAC performed various construction works spanning from earth and geotechnical works to foundational, structural and other civil works in the Utilities & Offsites scope which comprised about 30% of the total project. Works included, among others, excavation, demolition mud mat, forms, rebars, concreting, curing, waterproofing, protection, backfilling, grading for pipe racks and sleepers, etc.
Construction of a Sea Club in Al Fanateer Marina Development in Jubail (in association with OSG).
SOMAC’s work included the furnishing of all plant, labor, supervision, tools and equipment, technical and professional services, materials, supplies and articles necessary for the construction of new Sea Club buildings located within the Al Fanateer Marina Development in Jubail. The expansion work comprised a diving & water sport club, a youth club, a bowling club, an indoor swimming pool, indoor multi-purpose courts, a mosque and an amenities building.
The Pearl is an artificial island spanning nearly 4 square kilometers in Doha, Qatar.
SOMAC’s work consisted of the procurement and construction of civil and utilities infrastructure works. Specific works included,among others, the following:
▪ Procurement and construction of 12 box-type culverts located in the Pearl Island
▪ Procurement and Construction of all civil structural works for the District Cooling Plant building, transformer room building and the Administration building. The works included huge raft foundations (approximate concrete quantity of 15,000 cubic meters), retaining walls, underground trenches, floor slabs (around 8,000 square meters), columns with brackets up to 29 meters in height, and floor screeding and concrete walls for the lift head room
▪ Procurement and construction of two buildings of the pneumatic sold waste treatment plant (Collection Station A & B) including raft foundations, retaining walls, suspended slab, roof slab, architectural works and landscaping
▪ Procurement and construction of all civil works for a Sewage Treatment Plant including under and above ground tanks, plinths, electrical control building, glass reinforced pipes for transmission line, valve chambers, landscaping and fencing
SOMAC’s work consisted of the procurement and construction of 3 UR bridges, 22 underpasses, 407 box culverts (single and multicell), 174 pipe culverts, 12 number camel crossings and 5 road crossings distributed over 700 km of desert roads in Al-Jouf Area. Concrete quantities of over 140,000 cubic meters were poured in this project and 4,800 linear meters of pipe culverts were installed. Protective coatings and joint sealants were applied across all the structures. The works for this distinguished project also included all earthworks necessary.

SOMAC’s work consisted of the procurement and construction of 9 different types of bridges (rail bridges, road bridges and Wadi bridges) with different types of construction including cast-in-place post-tensioned box girders, precast post-tensioned omega girders, and precast post-tensioned I-beams.
Work activities included, among others, structural excavation, backfilling, foundations, piers and girders, post-tensioning, installation of bearing pads and expansion joints, fixing of water bars, treatment of construction joints, waterproofing, dewatering, grouting, protective coatings, and joint sealant.
The work used over 80,000 cubic meters of concrete, 18,000 tons of reinforcement steel, 2,000 tons of post-tensioning steel, and 1,000 bearing pads.
