Project Description

The Pearl is an artificial island spanning nearly 4 square kilometers in Doha, Qatar.

SOMAC’s work consisted of the procurement and construction of civil and utilities infrastructure works. Specific works included,among others, the following:
▪ Procurement and construction of 12 box-type culverts located in the Pearl Island
▪ Procurement and Construction of all civil structural works for the District Cooling Plant building, transformer room building and the Administration building. The works included huge raft foundations (approximate concrete quantity of 15,000 cubic meters), retaining walls, underground trenches, floor slabs (around 8,000 square meters), columns with brackets up to 29 meters in height, and floor screeding and concrete walls for the lift head room
▪ Procurement and construction of two buildings of the pneumatic sold waste treatment plant (Collection Station A & B) including raft foundations, retaining walls, suspended slab, roof slab, architectural works and landscaping
▪ Procurement and construction of all civil works for a Sewage Treatment Plant including under and above ground tanks, plinths, electrical control building, glass reinforced pipes for transmission line, valve chambers, landscaping and fencing
