Project Description

The Haramain Highspeed Railway links the two Holy Mosques through Jeddah, King Abdulaziz International Airport, and King Abdullah Economy City along a 450km route.

SOMAC’s work consisted of the procurement and construction of 9 different types of bridges (rail bridges, road bridges and Wadi bridges) with different types of construction including cast-in-place post-tensioned box girders, precast post-tensioned omega girders, and precast post-tensioned I-beams.

Work activities included, among others, structural excavation, backfilling, foundations, piers and girders, post-tensioning, installation of bearing pads and expansion joints, fixing of water bars, treatment of construction joints, waterproofing, dewatering, grouting, protective coatings, and joint sealant.

The work used over 80,000 cubic meters of concrete, 18,000 tons of reinforcement steel, 2,000 tons of post-tensioning steel, and 1,000 bearing pads.
